About LLC Cost Calc

I’m Jordan Pierce. I built LLC Cost Calc after noticing more and more people trying to pin down what forming an LLC really costs — and getting very different answers depending on where they looked.

The state filing fee is the easy part. What trips people up is everything after it. Plenty of people budget for the one-time formation fee and forget that most states charge an annual report fee every year to keep the LLC in good standing — and a handful, like California, add an $800 yearly franchise tax no matter how small the business is. Then there’s the registered agent: free if you use your own address, or a few hundred dollars a year if you hire a service. The real number is almost never the one people see first.

So I built calculators that add up the whole picture — first year and ongoing — for all 50 states.

The fee figures here come from each state’s official Secretary of State schedules, and I review them regularly, because these numbers do change. This site is for general information to help you plan your budget — it isn’t professional advice for your specific situation.
